AboutBuildings and landscapes rich with history abound in southeastern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware, and western New Jersey. As members of the Tri-State Coalition of Historic Places, we value these sites. They link us to those who lived here before us. They define our communities today. We are the staff members who commit to saving them and sharing their meanings with our neighbors, near and far.
Tri-State Coalition of Historic Places developed in the early 1990s from conversations between historic site administrators in the Philadelphia region and staff at the Pew Charitable Trusts. Members researched and published Standards and Practices for Historic Site Administration, now in its second edition. See the order form on the Resources page of this website. |
Tri-State Coalition of Historic Places offered a collaborative marketing project, Story Tours, from 2004 until 2006. In recent years, we focused on small to mid-sized historic sites, offering networking and professional development opportunities. In 2009, we launched a website, with the help of members of the University of Delaware’s Communications Department.

Mission Statement
Tri-State Coalition of Historic Places is a not-for-profit consortium of historic sites in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware that are open to the public to interpret the history of the site and region. The Coalition actively works to promote preservation and interpretation of historic sites through education, advocacy, mutually supportive collaborations, technical support and information exchange.
Vision
The Tri-State Coalition of Historic Places will become a large membership-based organization that understands and responds to members’ needs. Through organizing and advocacy, Tri-State will position the historic site community among the larger regional cultural and tourism attractions to maximize visibility, visitation, and fundraising. By offering valuable services, Tri-State will help its members maximize their historic and human assets, and achieve the highest of standards and practices for managing historic places and collections.
